Why Car Dealers Don’t Properly Document Your Vehicle Complaints and Repairs

Have you ever wondered why the service writer at your local car dealer doesn’t write down your vehicle complaints the way you described them?

Have you ever wondered why the service technician at your local car dealer described the repair made to your vehicle in such a non-descript way?

General Motors may have just given all of us the reason behind the “milk toast”: descriptions used on your vehicle repair orders.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration just released documents to the public which include a powerpoint presentation with a list of 69 words and phrases you can’t use in written GM memos. It appears that memo found its way to many local car dealers.

The following is a partial list of words you will probably never see on your repair order:

Always Life-threatening
Bad Never
Critical Problem
Dangerous Safety
Deathtrap Serious
Debilitating Terrifying
Explode Unstable
Failed
Failure
Flawed
